Abandoned

Then the officers said to the king, “Jeremiah must be put to death! He is discouraging the soldiers who are still in the city, and all the people, by what he is saying to them. He does not want good to happen to us; he wants to ruin us.” King Zedekiah said to them, “Jeremiah is in your control. I cannot do anything to stop you.” So the officers took Jeremiah and put him into the well that was in the courtyard of the guards. The officers used ropes to lower Jeremiah into the well, which did not have any water in it, only mud. And Jeremiah sank down into the mud.
Jeremiah 38:4 – 6

The world seeks to isolate us, to keep us apart from each other. It can do this through privilege and reward as much as through persecution and injustice.

There are no words to express the abyss between isolation and having one ally. It may be conceded to the mathematician that four is twice two. But two is not twice one; two is two thousand times one.
G.K. Chesterton

We will never
No no never
Drive you away
We will never drive you away
From peace in this land
I stood a wanderer
On life’s journey
At the close of the day
Hungry and tired
And beaten by the rain
Lord here is my shelter
A sacred resting place
Promised so long ago
We will never
No no never
Drive you away
We will never drive you away
From peace in this land
Sophocles/ Telson
