The hidden thing, the thing carefully concealed: that is the thing that will bring disaster.

“One of you will betray me.” The disciples were at a loss to know of which one He was speaking. Simon Peter said to the disciple Jesus loved, who was reclining on Jesus’ bosom, “Tell us who He is speaking about.” He leaned back and said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “The one I give this morsel to.” Jesus dipped the morsel and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, saying, “What you do, do quickly.” No one at the table knew why Jesus said this to Judas. Some thought that because he kept the common purse, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the festival”; or that he should give something to the poor. Judas went out. And it was night.
