Spy Wednesday

Wednesday’s Gospel reading preludes the betrayal of Judas. How appropriate then is the sometimes-used phrase, “Spy Wednesday,” for this period before our celebration of the Sacred Triduum. The events that lead Jesus to the cross are filled with intrigue, suspense and an impending sense of disaster.
-Hugh McNichol-

Someone is keeping something hidden.

But Judas Iscariot (the one who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?” (He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.)
-John 12: 4-8-

One of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver, and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over.
